Summary

This is a 2D metroidvania platformer I made in Unity. As a player, you must beat hostile creatures, maneuver through hazardous terrain and harness the powers of the wind to climb through the caves of the mountain of Altar.

The project involved creating a 2D platformer game with 3 levels that utilize the 3-Act Structure.

Taking inspiration from Hollow Knight, I made a metroidvania game which involves exploration, combat and platforming. Progressing through the levels allow the player to gain new abilities such as dashing and double jumping, allowing them to reach new areas where they could not go before.

I made this project in Unity to become more profficient at scripting and using the editor, and most 2D assets were taken from the Unity Asset Store, as the goal was not to create a nice looking game.

Learning Outcomes

Gameplay and Mechanics Design: Designing of all mechanics, taking inspiration from Hollow Knight.

Level Design: Designing the levels by first doing block-outs on paper and in Figma, and creating the levels in Unity using Tile Sets.

C# Programming and Unity implementation: Programmed all game mechanics in C# within Unity.

Prototyping and Playtesting: Tested the game with several people to make changes/improvements to the game.
