University Project: Block Blitz

FEBRUARY 2023

Project Description

Summary

The goal of this project was to create a prototype for an arcade game in 2 weeks, with a custom built arcade controller with unique input.

Using the GXP engine, a game engine created by teachers at my university, we made an auto runner where the player must jump, slide, and choose between platforms to place at certain spots to pass obstacles.

The original plan/idea was to make this an endless runner, which becomes faster as the player stays alive, with a procedurally generating level utilizing pre-made obstacles. This plan did not go through as it would have proved too difficult for a 2 week project, and we ended up making one long level.

My Tasks and Contributions

Mechanics and Gameplay Design: Together with the team, we brainstormed and designed ideas for the game. I was responsible for having the idea of mashing an endless runner with Tetris-like puzzle elements.

Level Design: I designed level sections using Figma, and implemented the completed level with Tiled into the game.

3D Modeling and Designing of Controller Buttons: I designed the buttons for the controller and 3D printed them.
