Summary

The goal of this group project was to make an interactive experience which communicates a chosen social campaign. We chose Four Paws as our campaign, with the aim of raising awareness and changing behavior towards cattle welfare and farm animal cruelty.

Through the Design Thinking Process, we empathized with a target market, defined a problem, and developed an idea to solve this problem.

The experience is an atmospheric horror game where the player must explore a facility where humans are caged cattle. The humans go through the pains and cruelties that cows experience on a daily basis. This was done to help users better understand the topic and to make them empathize with cows.

My Tasks and Contributions

Mechanics and Gameplay Design: Working as a team, we brainstormed and designed the game mechanics for the game, such as movement, picking up and moving objects, puzzle mechanics etc.

Level Design, Puzzle Design: Working with the artists, we designed the layout for the entire level, including rooms, flow of the game, and tying the level design with the puzzle design. I worked on the puzzle design for the keypad and folder.

Market and User Research, Campaign Research: I took care of finding an appropriate campaign for our idea and doing research on the market through empathy maps, which I then documented.

Narrative and Dialogue Writing: I wrote the dialogue that is present in the game through interacting with NPCs, which I implemented using Yarn Spinner in Unity with the help of our engineers. The narrative was developed through discussions with the team at the early stages of the project.

Sound and Music Design: I made the 2 music tracks for the game: the menu/end screen music and the gameplay music. I went for making tracks which were immersive to highlight the feeling of horror. I also did the sound design for the game, where I mostly took CC0 sounds and edited them in Ableton Live.
